Tiffany Box Cake & A Very Merry Christmas to All...

My very last order before Christmas....
Yes...a customer wanted to order a Tiffany Box Cake for her daughter's 21st birthday and I only had 24 hours to do it.  So...I told her that I will try my very best.  I baked the mudcake, crumb coat it and lay the fondant over it and worked on it to make it look like a tiffany box. I am happy to say that the customer was happy with the cake and I am really hoping that her daughter will be happy with it too.  Here's the tiffany box cake which I made.

After that...hubby and I were buying buying ingredients for our family Christmas dinner....

A Piece of Cake for Each Teacher to say Thank You!

My kids were saying that they would like to give their teachers something to say thank you and I thought that a piece of cake decorated nicely would be just awesome.  It might be a strange idea but I wanted to give this idea of mine a try.

So, I baked 2 mudcakes and cut it into equal sizes,  iced it and wrapped it with fondant. Then I decorated it with something simple.  My kids gave me their thumbs up and off we went delivering it to their teachers the next day.  Here's how it looked like.  I made 8 pieces in all.

I was really happy to hear from my kids that their teachers loved it.

Minecraft Cake and Cupcakes for my little Prince

As I mentioned in my earlier post, my little Prince wanted a Minecraft Theme...cake and cupcakes which he can bring to school to celebrate.  This Mommy doesn't even know what or who is Minecraft. So, what did I do? Googled it and found out its a Wii game and the whole thing looks like legoland with Creepers and Steve and other stuffs.

So, I asked my little Prince what he wanted and he wanted Creepers cupcakes and a Cake with Steve on top of it.  I have been really busy with work and stuff.  I tried my best to make this theme happen with some help from my kids...lazy me, right?

So..here's how the cupcakes and cake looked like.

Cake with the character Steve

Creepers Cupcakes

I was pretty nervous when I brought the cake and cupcakes to school as I was really hoping that if its not 100% alike, at least they will recognise the characters.  When I displayed the cake and cupcakes and heard the "ooo...its Steve, its the creepers"..."its Minecraft"...all the butterflies flew away.  When I looked at my little Prince and he gave me the biggest smile and hugged me..that's the best gift a Mother could ever want.

Old Fashion Vs New Fashion

This is the first time I found myself in an interesting convo.... A friend of mine wanted a fondant cake with 2 figurines (her hubby and herself) to celebrate his birthday. However, her hubby is an old fashion guy who just wants a simple fruit cake...no fancy "plastic" on it.  I was a little confused about the "plastic" thingy and I found out later that its the fondant.  Her hubby wants to SEE the fruit cake and she wants the 2 figurines.  So, in the end, I came out with something like this. Thank goodness both parties are happy with the end results.

Phew....another happy couple!!!

Civilizations Wars Vs Oriental Theme Fondant Cakes

July is often a busy time for me because somehow, my family's birthdays falls on this cold and rainy winter month. This year, I made several more to thank those around us for being our friends, our bosses, etc.  I always feel excited and anxious when I make the cakes as I really want it to turn out looking good.

My little prince celebrated his 6th birthday a week ago. He has been playing "civilizations wars" and he wanted a cake of his favourite game. However, he wanted it his way. So, he was with me all the time when I made the figurines, coloured the fondant, must be in the snow, etc. He was really happy with the results and I was happy too as he gave me 100 kisses.. :)  Here's a photo of his birthday cake.

A few days ago, my hubby asked if I could do a thank you cake for his boss and I was all for it. He is a very lucky man to have a wonderful boss and colleagues.  However, he reminded me to think "more Asian" this time and I came out with something like this.  Here's a photo of it.  So glad to hear that his boss and his colleagues loved it.

Till next time...

Grandma in the Garden

My sweet neighbour will be flying to Sydney for her birthday this year. She is a sweet lady who loves gardening and loves yellow roses. So, this year, instead of a cream cake (that's what I made for her last year), I decided to make her a fondant cake with her favourite things and colours.  The cake is a buttery chocolate cake with coffee buttercream. I am so glad that she loved it.

Here's a photo of the cake which I made for my darling neighbour....

Wohoo....2 more cakes to go for the July boys....

My Princess 4th Birhday

My little Princess is growing up so fast...she turns 4 today.  She wanted a Strawberry Shortcake cake and I was told that she wants the "new" Strawberry...not the old one.  I watched the DVD with her to understand more about this "new" Strawberry.  It looks like the Strawberry which I grew up with has gone for some major make-over or something as the "new" one doesn't look anything like the old Strawberry which I know so well.

I often have trouble with the eyes whenever I do the gumpaste figurines and this time there is no difference.  The first Strawberry which I made did not get the approval from my little Princess. Hence, I had to mould another head and tried my hands in making her look like what she suppose to look like.  I compared my figurine with the DVD cover and I must say it doesn't look like her much. However, thankfully, my little Princess loved the second one better.....wohoo!!!  To see the smile on her face and receive a hug and a "I Love You, Mummy" is the best gift ever.

Here's a photo of the approved Strawberry Shortcake Cake from my little Princess.

Till next time.....bye!!!

My princess love ballet and my prince loves drama...so tadaa...Hello Kitty & Dear Daniel Swan Lake Theme. Here's the result of my plaque.... I forgot to take some photos before putting it into the box...oophs!!!

Marzipan (Modelling)

Another interesting class that we have this semester is Marzipan. We started from doing our own marzipan, then proceed onto modelling of plaques, fruits, figurines (people and animals) to covering a fruit cake.  Here's some photos of fruits and veggies which we did in our marzipan classes.
